Editors Panel

THE SESSION

A panel of editors from traditional and digital media talk about their publications, what they look for when working with freelancers, their current editorial needs, and how to pitch them.

We will take limited short pitches from the audience during the session. While there’s no guarantee you’ll get an assignment from your pitch, you will get valuable feedback on both your pitch and story idea. Sign up details will be available shortly before the convention.

THE PANELISTS:

Erica Silverstein is Cruise Critic’s senior editor overseeing all feature content and staff and freelancer writing assignments. She took her first cruise in 1994, and joined Cruise Critic in 2008. Erica has a passion for hiking and musicals, and a weakness for chocolate and afternoon tea. She also lives a double life; on some trips you’ll find her sipping fruity cocktails aboard a luxury yacht, while on others she’ll be chasing her two kids across a mega-ship buffet. Her work has also appeared in Let’s Go, Fodor’s and SmarterTravel.com.

Beverly Hurley is the publisher and editor of the niche travel website www.GardenDestinations.com and of the Triangle Gardener print publication and www.TriangleGardener.com website in North Carolina. It’s through the garden travel website that Beverly and her team of writers tell the story of a destination through its flora and fauna, focusing on the gardens and nature attractions of the location.

Tracey Minkin is Travel Editor at Coastal Living, a luxury lifestyle print and digital brand at Meredith Corporation, which was awarded the SATW Lowell Thomas gold medal for overall excellence in travel coverage in a non-travel publication in 2016 and 2017. Minkin has spent her career as both editor for regional and national magazines and freelance writer. Her writing has been anthologized in collections and has won regional and national awards. She was a contributing author to Fodor’s The Thirteen Colonies, a historical/cultural travel guidebook. Prior to joining Coastal Living in 2014, she was the founding editor of GoLocalProv.com, an all-digital news and information platform in Providence, Rhode Island. She has an MS from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
