I would love to serve as SATW’s first International-at-Large. I’m a Toronto-based journalist who has written three travel books and two cookbooks. I spent nearly 28 years meeting deadlines and putting out weekly sections at daily newspapers, including 18 years at the Toronto Star as the food editor and then the travel editor. I’ve been freelance since 2018 and for my anchor gig I’m the Canada editor of US-based National Parks Traveler. I’m often on the road and always on email and so promise to be readily available to everyone who needs me.
Hello SATW! I have been your Active at Large board member for the last two years and I’m throwing my hat into the ring for another term.
I’ve been an Active member of this organization since 2007 and I love it as much as I’m sure you do. SATW is a healthy, robust organization that offers a lot to its members. As your Active at Large representative, I’ll help make sure it stays that way.
During my last term, I was the liaison for the Phoenix Awards committee and the History committee. I made sure their action requests were voted upon during board meetings.
I also was a Navigator for many new members, making sure they were informed about all the opportunities this organization can offer. I’m still doing this and really enjoy meeting new folks and sharing my SATW knowledge.
From 2017-2021 I served as Canadian Chapter Chair. I helped guide our members through the pandemic and made sure they felt connected through various online meetings, PD sessions, and social gatherings. During that time I sat on the SATW Board (when chapter chairs were still on the board) and learned the intricacies involved in running our society smoothly.
I understand how important it is to provide input and voice concerns about decisions that affect us all, from requalification to membership fees, to deciding on our annual conference sites.
It is essential that all Active members’ points of view are conveyed. Whether you are a digital publisher, editor, or freelance journalist, your differing interests must be represented.
If you vote for me as your International at Large representative, I will listen to your ideas and concerns and make sure they are considered by the board.
As a travel journalist with 20+ years of experience, I have an eye for detail, am a good listener, and know how to get a message across.
Vote for me and I’ll put these skills to work for you.
My name is Lindsay Nieminen and I am running for the International at Large position. As the current Canada Chapter Secretary, I work with the rest of the chapter exec to recruit new members as well as serve our current members. I would love to bring in a voice for our newer members to the board ( I joined SATW in 2020 ) and continually encourage evolution of SATW as a whole, to serve our current members and encourage more young people to join SATW.
