The
German National Tourist Office and its partners host the 2010 SATW
Annual Convention 2010 in Dresden and Leipzig with Pre- and Post-Tours
throughout Germany
 From
October 4 to October 18, 2010,
the German National Tourist Office, along with its tourism partners
from Saxony, Dresden and Leipzig, is looking forward to hosting the
convention of approximately
400 members of the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW) in the
cities of Dresden and Leipzig as well as to welcoming the journalists
throughout Germany during the country-wide pre- and
post-convention-tours.
Hosting the SATW Convention 2010 in two different, yet
connected cities in Germany’s eastern state of Saxony is a new and
exciting approach to this annual event. Dresden and Leipzig are less
than one
hour away from each other and together display a wide range of
Germany’s diversity with palaces, beautifully restored historic city
centers, fascinating history from royal glamour to reunification.
The cutting-edge side of "Creative Germany" comes alive with modern
buildings such as VW’S Transparent Factory in Dresden and the vivid,
contemporary art scene in Leipzig’s restored cotton mill. The
SATW members will discover not only the two cities, but on several
full- and half-day tours will explore the state of Saxony including its
rich heritage from Meissen to Mendelssohn. www.saxonytourism.com
The carefully-crafted and entertaining themed pre and post
tours throughout Germany will bring the journalists face to face with
diverse local culture, festivals as well as the country’s museums,
galleries, modern architecture, history and culinary delights. The GNTO
is keen to promote a variety of story possibilities that showcase the
country’s diversity and abundance. From the Baltic and
North Sea coasts to the peaks of the Alps; from the buzzing urban
centers of Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne and Munich to picturesque villages
and great nature parks, the tours will cover a variety of
topics including the birth of the Bauhaus; castle hotels; spa culture;
the Hanseatic cities; Berlin as Cultural Capital; Car Country Germany;
the culinary traditions of the Black Forest; Lake
Constance; art treasures along the Rhine; Essen and Ruhr as the
Cultural Capital of Europe and many others.
Above all, the GNTO welcomes the unusual opportunity to greet
so many journalists at one time and to have the opportunity to show off
the diverse aspects of the German culture while at the same time
highlighting unifying aspects such as affordability, warm hospitality
and ease of transportation and accessibility. Situated between nine
European countries, Germany is in the heartland of Europe, a
perfect nexus for any European trip, and the ancestral home for so many
Americans and American traditions.
The Society of American Travel Writers is, with 1300 members,
one of the largest journalist associations in North America.
SATW-members, travel writers, photographers, TV- and radio-producers as
well
as PR-professionals from the USA and Canada are committed to
responsible travel journalism of the highest quality. www.satw.org
