SATW Canadian Chapter Announces 2023 Awards

The SATW Canadian Chapter announced the recipients of its 7th Annual Chapter Awards Program, representing the best of Canadian travel journalism.

The awards, which include Best Canadian Travel Story, Best International Travel Story, Best Service Story, Virtual storytelling, and Photography (People and Places), were given out on September 21 at SATW’s Canadian Chapter Meeting. 

The full list of award winners is below:

Best Canadian Travel Story

  • First place: Jennifer Bain, This Island Is Much More Than Its Iconic Inn, Daily Beast
  • Second place: Jane Mundy, Sipping & Cycling Penticton / Hungry for Kelowna, BC Magazine
  • Third place: Linda Barnard, The Rockies by Rail: The Rocky Mountaineer luxury train, the ultimate way to see the mountains, West of the City Magazine

Best International Travel Story 

  • First place: Natalie Preddie, In Alabama, I find a historic trail of tragedy and triumph — and the human side of the fight for civil rights, The Toronto Star
  • Second place: Heather Greenwood Davis, For Muslim hikers, an empowering community makes all the difference, National Geographic
  • Darcy Rhyno, Consider the Stone Crab, Atlas Obscura
